A Moving Memorial Ceremony Honoring the Memory of Fallen Soldier Roi Peri

Light, Prayer, and Acts of Kindness in Memory of a Hero

At the initiative of the Chairman of the organization, Rabbi YaakovGloberman, a moving and meaningful memorial ceremony was held today (Thursday) in honor of the fallen soldier Roi Peri, z”l, who was killed during the brutal terrorist attack on Simchat Torah 5784 (October 7, 2023).

Roi Peri fell while serving with courage, dedication, and self-sacrifice at the Pega outpost, along Israel’s border near the Gaza Strip, where he defended the people of Israel with his own body.

During the ceremony, Rabbi Globerman lit memorial candles and led prayers for the elevation of Roi’s pure soul. Participants joined in the recitation of Mishnayot, chapters of Psalms, and the memorial prayer “El Maleh Rachamim,” honoring Roi’s heroism, faith, and devotion.

Roi’s family dedicated “The Light of Roi” — one of Yad B’Yad’s central charitable initiatives — in his memory, transforming his legacy into an everlasting source of light, kindness, and goodness.

At “The Light of Roi” community kitchen, approximately 500 hot meals are served every day to people in need, including seniors and underprivileged families.

The kitchen operates with unconditional love, dignity, and genuine compassion, turning Roi’s memory into a living wellspring of hope and kindness for hundreds of people each week.

Rabbi Yaakov Globerman concluded the ceremony with heartfelt words:
“Roi gave his life for the sanctity of the people of Israel. We are privileged to continue his path through daily acts of kindness for every person. His memory accompanies us every day in the community kitchen in Lod that bears his name, illuminating our way through doing good.”
