Millions in Poverty: The Harsh Reality Exposed Today

The poverty crisis in Israel: Chairman of "Yad Beyad" participated in a national conference of the "Latet" organization.

Today (Tuesday), a national conference organized by the “Latet” organization was held at the Peres Center for Peace in Jaffa, focusing on the poverty crisis in Israel. The conference emphasized the urgent need to mobilize resources and support vulnerable communities.

Among the participants were Rabbi Yaakov Globerman, Chairman of the “Yad Beyad” organization, alongside “Latet” CEO Eran Weintrob and Chairman Gilles Darmon.
During the conference, alarming poverty statistics for 2024 were revealed, highlighting a severe social crisis:
  • 2,657,000 people are living in poverty in Israel.
  • 678,200 families are struggling to survive under harsh conditions.
  • 1,240,000 children live below the poverty line.
  • 65% of these individuals rely on external assistance to meet their basic needs.
These findings point to a significant deterioration in the economic and social state, prompting the participants to call for enhanced collaboration between the government, the private sector, and non-profit organizations to halt this decline.
Rabbi Yaakov Globerman, Chairman of “Yad Beyad,” addressed the conference, emphasizing the critical need for widespread support for those affected by poverty:
“The data revealed today are not just numbers; they represent millions of people suffering daily from economic and social hardships. I want to thank CEO Eran Weintrob and Chairman Gilles Darmon for this important initiative and their unwavering commitment to combating poverty.”

Rabbi Globerman further stressed the importance of policy change and the development of long-term aid programs while raising public awareness of the issue.

“We must all lend a hand and create a better future for the millions of Israelis who have nothing.”

At the conclusion of the conference, it was agreed to strengthen collaborations between aid organizations to address the immense challenge posed by the poverty crisis in Israel.
